Questions and answers.
What it runs on, what stays on your Mac, what things cost, and how to reach us.
The basics
What is Beehive Cluster?
An AI workspace for Mac. A built-in engine runs open AI models on your Mac, and you can add the cloud models you already pay for with your own API keys. Chat, coding agents, big jobs split into parts and, if you want them, home devices all live in one app.
Super AI Workspace is its secondary name. Both names mean the same app.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no Beehive Cluster account. A cloud model needs your own account and API key with that provider.
Does it work offline?
Yes, with local models. Once a model is on your Mac, local chats work without an internet connection. Cloud models and model downloads need one.
Which languages does it speak?
The interface comes in nine languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish and Arabic, laid out right to left.
Is there a version for Windows or iPhone?
Not today. Beehive Cluster is a Mac app.
Your Mac and models
Which Macs does it run on?
A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later, with at least 16 GB of memory. 32 GB is recommended for larger local models.
How much disk space does it need?
The app is about 1 GB. Local models download when you choose one, about 0.5 to 2.6 GB each. Local image generation needs about 9 GB more.
Which models can I use?
On your Mac: open models from the Recommended models page, which checks your chip, memory and free disk space and marks the ones that should fit. Nothing downloads until you press Download.
In the cloud: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, MiniMax and other compatible services, with your own API keys.
How does it choose between my Mac and the cloud?
Pick a model yourself, or choose Savings Auto, which pairs a model on your Mac with a cloud model you set up and gives the simpler work to the local one. A cloud model is only used for destinations you have allowed.
Privacy
What data do you collect?
None. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting to us. Conversations, memory, documents and settings stay on your Mac. On the App Store, the privacy label reads Data Not Collected.
When does anything leave my Mac?
Only when you use a service you chose, such as a cloud model, and only after you allow that destination. The consent card names the destination before the first send, every reply keeps a receipt, and you can revoke any destination in Settings > Privacy & data.
Where are my API keys kept?
In the macOS Keychain on your Mac. They are not written to files or logs.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. Settings > Privacy & data deletes what the app stored. You can export your library first, as one zip of Markdown files.
Cost and tokens
How does it help me spend less?
Local models take the work that does not need the cloud, so fewer tokens go to paid models. Every reply shows the model, where it ran, the tokens and an estimated cost from the prices you set, so you can see where the money goes. You can also set token limits per API connection and a monthly budget.
Savings figures are estimates, never promises.
Is the cost it shows exact?
No. It is an estimate from the prices you enter, shown as a range where it can't be precise. A cloud reply shows No price until you set one. Your provider's bill is what counts.
Coding agents
Which coding agents can I connect?
Claude Code and Codex CLI, each with your own account. In Connect, press Copy for my agent, paste it into your agent and allow the connection when the app asks. The local endpoint is off by default and reachable from your Mac only. Codex CLI may ask you to approve a step outside its sandbox.
Does it really save tokens for my agent?
It can help when your agent reads files. Optional hooks and tools let it read pictures, PDFs and recordings in your project on your Mac first. They act only when an agent reads a file through its tools or uses this app's MCP tools.
A picture pasted straight into an agent's prompt box, or uploaded to a chat website, can't be intercepted. Savings shown are estimates.
What is a handoff brief?
When one agent runs out of quota, the app writes a short brief of the current work on your Mac: a summary of the changes, open review comments, the latest snapshot, memories you confirmed and the agent's to-dos. It holds no file contents and no secrets. Copy it into another agent and carry on.
Does the app send my code anywhere?
The app itself doesn't. Built-in coding tasks work in an isolated copy of your Git project and change nothing until you apply them. Coding agents you connect are run by their own vendors and send what they read to their own providers, under those vendors' terms.
Devices and camera
Can AI control my home devices?
Only if you turn on the experimental device features, which are off by default, and connect devices yourself. Every action has a risk level, and actions like door locks are Never by AI. When AI asks to use a device, it runs only if you click Approve.
When does it use my camera?
Only when you turn a camera on. The window then shows Camera in use with a Stop button. Pictures are processed in memory and are not recorded, unless you set up a watch that saves matching pictures.
Buying and help
How much does it cost?
US$19.99, a one-time purchase on the Mac App Store. No subscription and no in-app purchases. Prices in other countries and regions are set by Apple. Cloud models are billed by their providers.
When can I get it?
Beehive Cluster is coming to the Mac App Store. On release day, the buttons on this site will take you straight to it. Availability varies by country or region.
How do I get help?
Open an issue on GitHub or email starlight.ripple@gmail.com. Please put “Beehive Cluster” in the title, and never post API keys or private conversations in a public issue.
